The XXII Symposium on High-Performance Computing Systems (WSCAD 2021) is a traditional Brazilian event in the area of computer architecture, high-performance processing, and distributed systems. The event takes place annually, providing a discussion forum for hundreds of researchers, industry professionals, and students who develop applications in this area. Besides the main event, other related events are held: Computer and High-Performance Computing Thesis and Dissertation Competition (WSCAD-CTD), Workshop for Scientific Initiation in Computer Architecture and High-Performance Computing (WSCAD-WIC), Workshop on Computer Architecture Education (WEAC), and International Parallel Programming Marathon. This year, the XXII WSCAD took place between October 26 and 29. The event was held in virtual form due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
GMAP Master’s student Claudio Scheer presented at WSCAD 2021 the paper entitled “Performance Data Visualization of Linux Events on Multicores”. The work as advised by Dr. Luiz Gustavo Fernandes and Dr. Isabel Manssour, and co-advised by Dr. Dalvan Griebler.
O trabalho foi orientado pelo Dr. Luiz Gustavo Fernandes e pela Dra. Isabel Manssour, e co-orientado pelo Dr. Dalvan Griebler. In addition, it was supported by GMAP master’s student Renato B. Hoffmann
The abstract of the article is below:
“Profiling tools are essential to understand the behavior of parallel applications and assist in the optimization process. However, tools such as Perf generate a large amount of data. This way, they require significant storage space, which also complicates reasoning about this large volume of data. Therefore, we propose VisPerf: a tool-chain and an interactive visualization dashboard for Perf data. The VisPerf tool-chain profiles the application and pre-processes the data, reducing the storage space required by about 50 times. Moreover, we used the visualization dashboard to quickly understand the performance of different events and visualize specific threads and functions of a real-world application.”
